If you’re a grown man and you have a widely-known nickname, it’s usually not an endearing one. Take Michael Jackson’s “Wacko Jacko” for example. But if your nickname is “Thor” or “The Mountain,” you’re probably doing something right.
Hafthor Bjornsson was born in Reykjavik, Iceland. He has placed first in many strongman competitions – including Europe’s Strongest Man – and has found his way into the top 10 of every other event he’s competed in. Measuring 6’9, and weigh in at 386lbs, he has rightly earned his superhuman monikers, as well as a role in the popular HBO Series, Game of Thrones.
In the video below, you’ll see Bjornsson pick up a Volkswagen Beetle and carry it way too far. It’s about 90 seconds into the video if you want to skip ahead.
In 2015, Bjornsson placed 1st in three different strongman competitions, and third in the World’s Strongest Man competition. One of his more notable accomplishments was carrying a 32ft, 1433lb ship mast five steps, breaking a 1000-year-old record set by Orm Storolfsson. He also has a deadlift record of 994lbs – which if you don’t even lift, bro, is ridiculous.
If that video wasn’t enough, check out this one showing Connor McGregor – current UFC featherweight champion – and Hafthor Bjornsson sparring in the gym. For reference, McGregor is 5’9, 145lbs, and obviously crazy.
Basically, this is a wild human being, and we felt like you should know.
Interested in training for the next strongman competition? Come pick up your Volkswagen Beetle today! Kidding, but if you’re looking for a great vehicle that’s tons of fun to drive, we’ve got plenty to choose from.
