Yeah, we were surprised, too.
According to an article in the Wall Street Journal that we can’t read because we don’t have a paid subscription, Facebook Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently bought and commutes to work daily in a black Volkswagen GTI with a manual transmission—that is, according to people who have read the article.
It’s a hatchback, which just fits Zuckerberg, doesn’t it? Famous for wearing his trusty hoodie and flip-flops to important board and funding meetings where millions, if not billions, of dollars were on the line, Zuckerberg quietly sent the message that utility and comfort are more important to him than flash and glitz.
Utility is exactly what you get in a 2014 Volkswagen GTI. 200 horsepower, 207 ft-lb or torque, four doors and 32 miles per gallon on the highway. It’s sporty, can get going when it needs to, and has enough amenities to satisfy a man worth $20 billion. We’d love to put that on our coffee mug, but sadly we’re just a few zeroes short.
And with a 9/10 rating from the fellows over at Top Gear, it appears that the Facebook starter knows exceptional value when he sees it.
To know what it feels like to be the CEO of Facebook for a day, schedule a test drive at Leith Volkswagen and give a 2014 GTI a spin. Who knows, you might even have a lightning bolt idea yourself.
